Education & Training
SSRI’s Education and Training core strives to increase the availability and utilization of cutting-edge methodologies in social and behavioral science. The core facilitates and supports the application of those methodologies within research projects conceived and conducted by Duke students and faculty.
To achieve this, SSRI:
- offers workshops throughout the year, which are open to anyone at Duke
- coordinates and provides consulting services both by appointment and on a drop-in basis (click on each consultant’s name on the calendar to check for availability and expertise)
- identifies and promotes opportunities, at and beyond Duke, to enhance methodological expertise and the application of methodological skills
- provides targeted support to SSRI programs and affiliates, including PARISS, DISM, and D-CIDES, and to specific projects selected with the approval of SSRI leadership
SSRI coordinates a staffed help desk inside SSRI's Computer Lab, Erwin Mill B140, which is staffed Monday - Wednesday from 1 -5 p.m. and Thursday 1 - 4:30 p.m. Come ask your questions to experts in such topics as ArcGIS, Excel, Matlab, MPlus, NodeXL, Qualtrics, R, SAS, SPSS, and Stata; survey design, sampling, and managing missing data; linear, longitudinal multilevel, network and spatial models.
If you have questions about the help desk, have difficulty connecting with the desired expert, seek training in subjects not covered in the workshop series, or are interested in scheduling a workshop targeting a specific group, please contact Alexandra Cooper.
